PML-N's Pervaiz Rasheed emerges strong candidate for Senate chairman slot
Names of several political leaders including Raja Zafarul Haq and Hasil Bazenjo are being considered
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – As the opposition agreed to dethrone Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani from his post, the name of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Pervaiz Rashid has emerged strong for the slot.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari presided over a party’s consultative meeting.
Sources said that the names of several political leaders including Raja Zafarul Haq and Hasil Bazenjo were considered in the meeting, while Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala also wishes to become chairman senate.
Sources said that the PPP hinted at not giving the slot to someone who had already been given the slot.
Surprising, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) have joined hands to remove Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani – a senator from Balochistan who had defeated PML-N’s candidate with the help of PPP and others in the Senate elections.
The decision to oust Sanjrani was reached in a meeting between PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on June 16. The two political scions met after Maryam invited Bilawal for lunch at Jati Umrah – the home of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for a lunch meeting.
