ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –The ministry for Science and Technology has prepared the lunar calendar for the next five years.
The experts of the ministry prepared the lunar calendar on the instructions of Minister Fawad Chaudhary. The calendar has been prepared for five years and would be reviewed after this period.
Fawad chaudhary has asked Islamic Ideological council of Pakistan about the recommendations and publishing of calendar in Ramazan. He contacted IIC and informed them about the preparation of calendar.
Dunya News sources said the calendar would be submitted in cabinet after approval from IIC. Fawad Chaudhary would also contact seminaries before publishing the calendar.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Monday invited Ruet-e-Hilal Committee head Mufti Muhammad Muneeb-ur-Rehman and Imam of Qasim Ali Khan mosque Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai to see how easy science has made to predict the lunar calender.
Fawad Chaudhry, while taking a jibe at both, tweeted that he invites both Mufti Muhammad Muneeb-ur-Rehman and Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai to sight Eid-ul-Fitr moon and experience how easy science has made it to calculate the starting of Ramadan and moon sighting which for sure does not require a big pile of papers and money for such an easy task.
Earlier this month, he proposed that science and technology should be used to sight moon, and claimed that unnecessary expenditures and controversies will be averted once a ten-year moon calendar is created when a spar between Science Minister and Islamic clerics started.
On May 7, Fawad Chaudhry announced that a committee has been constituted to finalize the calendar to indicate the exact dates of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha and Moharram for the next five years with 100% accuracy.
According to details, the committee comprises of Dr Muhammad Tariq Masood (Joint Scientific Adviser, Ministry of Science and Technology), Waqar Ahmad (Lecturer, Meteorology Department, CUI, Islamabad), Nadeem Faisal (Deputy Director, Meteorology Department), Abu Nasan (Deputy Director, Meteorology Department) and Ghulam Murtaza (DCM, SUPARCO, Islamabad).
He addressed a presser, and asserted that technological means must be utilized for improving the state’s economy.
