Govt to bring reforms through legislation: Dr Firdous

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Wednesday said the government wanted to bring reforms by introducing legislation in the Parliament.
She made the remarks during a meeting with office bearers of Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA) here at Parliament House. She congratulated the newly elected office bearers of Parliamentary Reporters Association.
Legislation in public interest was imperative, she said adding media should not let point-scoring by the opposition.
She said each minute of proceedings in the Parliament was costing a huge amount.
Dr Firdous said women in politics and journalism were facing a lot of challenges. Women should continue to raise voice for their rights, she added.
She said freedom of expression was right of everybody in democracy. “I have been given the responsibility to protect rights of the media”, she added.
She said she had come to meet the journalists on the special instruction of Prime Minister who gave her the authority to protect rights of journalists. The job of Ministry of Information was to facilitate journalists, she noted.
She said arrangements had been made for swearing in ceremony of PRA office bearers.
