Three soldiers martyred, seven injured in cross-border attack in N-Waziristan
According to details, army responded effectively and killed many terrorists.
WAZIRISTAN (Dunya News) – Three soldiers embraced martyrdom and seven others sustained injuries on Wednesday when around 60 to 70 terrorists opened fire at Pakistan Army troops near Alwara area of North Waziristan, according to Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Three soldiers, who had been working on fencing the border with Afghanistan, including Lance Naik Ali, Lance Naik Nazeer and Sepoy Imdad Ullah were martyred in the attack.
According to details, army responded effectively and killed many terrorists. The injured soldiers were rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
"While Pakistan security forces are solidifying border security through fencing and construction of forts to deny liberty of action to the terrorists, Afghan Security Forces and the authorities need to have more effective control in [the] border region to support Pakistan’s efforts as well as deny use of Afghan soil against Pakistan," the statement read.
Furthermore, it was added that Pakistan’s fencing efforts will continue despite "all such impediments".
Pakistan and the war-torn country of Afghanistan share a long border of 2611km, and Islamabad believes it could help contain terrorist activities on this side of the mountainous border — running from tribal areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to borderlands in Balochistan — if cross-border movement of militant elements is checked.
Earlier this week during a press conference, DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor had disclosed that fencing over a distance of 1,000km on the borders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan with Afghanistan has been completed and work on the rest is underway.
He said a total of 823 border forts were planned, out of which 300 have been constructed so far.
Last year, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had inaugurated the work for erecting fences along the Afghan border.
Later in November, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, during his first visit to North and South Waziristan tribal districts, also witnessed the ongoing work on border fencing.
The ISPR at the time had said the PM hailed achievements of the security forces and intelligence agencies for their successful operations against terrorists.
“No other country or their armed forces have done what Pakistan and its armed forces have done in war against terrorism,” the PM had said.
