Nishwa case: Court sends suspects to jail on judicial remand

KARACHI (Dunya News) – City court on Monday conducted hearing on the case related to the death of minor girl Nishwa who was administered a wrong injection at Karachi’s Darul Sehat Hospital.

During the hearing, the court sent five suspects to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, Nishwa’s father ended sit-in after Sindh government assured him to make an independent judicial commission to investigate the minor’s death.

On April 23, Nishwa passed away at Liaquat National Hospital during treatment.

Police had arrested midwife Sobia over irresponsibility after a male nurse, who was already in police custody, took her name. Accused Sobia had filled the injections which had no labeling and gave it to male nurse Agha Moeez.

Midwife Sobia has been sent to jail while other accused have also been handed over to police on a three-day remand.

On April 14, a nine-month-old girl had paralysed allegedly after being administered ‘wrong injection’ by ‘untrained nursing staff’ at Darul Sehat Hospital situated in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.

Nishwa’s father Qaiser Ali told media that he received direct threats from the high ranking police officer, who forced him to withdraw his demands for action against the hospital.

Ali further said, “The SP told me to think thoroughly before taking further action. He threatened me with severe consequences and said if you registered a First Investigation Report (FIR) you would get nothing.
