Leishmaniasis breaks out in South Waziristan.

TANK (Dunya News) – Leishmaniasis – a disease caused by leishmania and transmitted by the bite of sandflies – has broken out in South Waziristan, Dunya News reported on Thursday.

South Waziristan deputy commissioner has declared emergency in the entire district. The disease has become pandemic in Jandola and Mehsud area.




The deputy commissioner told that vaccinations of 270 persons have been done. The administration further stated that the deputy commissioner purchased 2000 injections and tablets at his own expense.



The health department told that hundreds of women and children have been affected by the disease.
