ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan has banned the broadcast of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the country amid high tensions between the nuclear armed neighbors.
Information Minister, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain informed media after the cabinet meeting chaired by PM Imran Khan nodded banning broadcasting of India s IPL matches in Pakistan.
The minister said that India has left no opportunity to harm Pakistan s cricket, adding that sports, culture, and other showbiz activities should not be politicized, but India has adopted an aggressive posture against our players and artists.
“We think that political differences should not interfere with sport and cultural activities. But we saw that limits were crossed when the Indian team played their match wearing army caps,” the Information minister said in reference to India’s third ODI match against Australia.
He expressed that now PEMRA would ensure that IPL matches are not aired in Pakistan.
He regretted that the Indian broadcaster pulled out from broadcasting PSL matches.
Following the Pulwama attack in occupied Kashmir, Indian broadcast company IMG Reliance informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that it would no longer be the broadcast partner for PSL.
