Teachers end sit-in protest after successful negotiations with Punjab Govt

Teachers from different cities of Punjab on Monday night ended their seven-day sit-in protest.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Teachers from different cities of Punjab on Monday night ended their seven-day sit-in protest near Charing Cross at the Mall Road in Lahore after successful negotiations with Punjab Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun, Dunya News reported.

Raja Yasir Humayun while talking to protesting teachers said that their legitimate demands have been accepted. He also informed them that a summary of five-tier promotion structure like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been sent to Chief Minister for approval.

Teachers from different cities started sit-in protest last week which was called by the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) against the provincial government for ignoring plight of the teachers.

The protesting teachers were demanding of the government for promotions, regularization of ad hoc teachers, pay protection and restoration of service structure. They were also demanding of the government to implement five-tier promotion structure like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
