PM Imran directs to accelerate measures to stop money laundering

Farogh Naseem briefed the meeting about proposed amendments in the law.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the government would ensure prevention of money laundering as it caused irreparable damage to the country’s economy.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of for the prevention of money laundering.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Asad Umer, Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi, Prime Minister’s Spokesperson Nadeem Afzal Chan, Adviser to Prime Minister on Media Iftikhar Durrani and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Media Affairs Yousaf Baig Mirza.

The officials from the FIA, FBR, State Bank and NADRA briefed the prime minister on the steps to stop money laundering.

Farogh Naseem also briefed the meeting about proposed amendments in the law. The law minister said the proposed amendments will declare money laundering cognizable and non-bail able offence.

He said imprisonment sentence will be enhanced up to ten years and fine be increased to five millions.

 

On the occasion, Imran Khan directed to accelerate the measures to stop money laundering.
