PM Imran Khan lauds Iran's stance of supporting Kashmiris
Rouhani invited him to visit Iran as part of strengthening bilateral relations.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Saturday evening held a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the recent simmering tensions in the region following the Pulwama attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IOK).
PM Khan apprised him about the current situation while both leaders agreed to have a better coordination between intelligence agencies of both countries.
Rouhani invited him to visit Iran as part of strengthening bilateral relations. Rouhani outlines decades of friendship and fraternity between the two countries and acknowledged that a joint contribution is required for resolution of the prevailing regional crisis.
Khan also conveyed to him about the current situation of relations between Pakistan and India, and emphasized on negotiations and talks to resolve the dispute.
The PM, while thanking Iran for supporting Kashmiris in their right to self-determination, also stressed on Iran’s positive and critical role in resolution of conflict between India and Pakistan.
Remarking recent regional tensions, Khan told him that he would soon have “good news” for Iran.
“It is in Pakistan’s own interest not to allow our territory to be used by banned outfits, and the Pakistani army is prepared to confront the militants more decisively with the intelligence information shared,” Khan told Rouhani.
Khan also offered condolences for the attack in which a suicide bomber killed 27 members of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards in mid-February in a southeastern region where security forces are facing a rise in attacks by militants.
