Court rejects NAB's request for physical remand of Kamran Michael

The accused has been sent to jail on judicial remand.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Court on Tuesday has rejected National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request for physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Kamran Michael who was detained on charges of misuse of authority.

At first, the bureau produced Michael before the judge in court number 3. However, he was then recommended to court number 2 where NAB’s request for physical remand was dismissed.

The accused has been sent to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, the accountability court had approved five-day transit remand of Kamran to shift him to Karachi.

Kamran Michael had served as Minister for Statistics, in Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s cabinet from August 2017 to May 2018. He previously served as the Minister for Human Rights in the third Sharif ministry from 2013 to 2017.

A member of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Michael held the cabinet portfolio of Minister for Ports and Shipping from 2013 to 2016.

Michael has been an elected member of the Senate of Pakistan on minorities seat since 2012 and has served as the Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs, Human Rights, Women development, Social Welfare and Finance in the Provincial Assembly of Punjab.
