PIA sacks three pilots, 50 crew staff over fake degrees
The apex court allowed the national flag carrier to hire pilots on contract basis
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has sacked 50 cabin crew members and three pilots for holding fake degrees.
The spokesperson of the airlines said on Saturday that the action has taken on the instructions of the Supreme Court. Three pilots and 50 crew staff have been fired, he added.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Tuesday issued a deadline of December 28 to Civil Aviation Authority for completing the verifications of the degrees of pilots.
The bench was informed that the PIA administration had fired 50 employees and three pilots who failed to furnish their educational record. An interim report was submitted to the bench by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The top court also directed the authorities concerned to complete the process of degree verification and submit the final report on the matter.
The court allowed the national flag carrier to hire pilots on contract basis. The court also sought entire details of the pilots’ licenses.
