Railways' land leasing case: NAB initiates inquiry against Saad Rafique

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Chief of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has ordered further inquiry against PML-N stalwart and former Railways’ minister Khawaja Saad Rafique for leasing of Railways’ land illegally.

The NAB sources claimed that the new inquiry is initiated against the former Railways minster as there are allegations that hundreds of acres of Railways’ land in Lahore, Kasur, and Faisalabad were allotted on lease for 33 years illegally when the accused was Railways’ minster. Irregularities were found in the lease agreement, the sources added.

NAB sources said the leased lands were reserved for petrol pumps and further commercial purposes, it said that the lands were owned by the state and it cannot be leased but Saad Rafique illegally leased the Railways’ land and given to his blue-eyed people.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader has been in NAB’s custody since November 11 in connection to the Paragon Housing Society case.

On April 7, the top judge had taken a suo motu notice of alleged Rs60 billion corruption in the Pakistan Railways. The top judge had also summoned railways minister, secretary and board members along with the audit report.
