PTI government introducing Whistle Blower Act to eradicate corruption
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Monday said that those who were involved in looting billions of rupees in the past from the national exchequer would be held accountable.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, he said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is introducing Whistle Blower Act to eradicate corruption from the country, adding that those who contribute in exposing corruption would be given 20 percent share.
The minister claimed that the PTI government has taken exemplary steps during the first 100 days.
Taking a jibe at the opposition parties, Fawad Ch said that the opponents doesn t want to the Parliament active.
He said that the Right to Information act will help bring transparency in the country to curb corruption, adding that the law will help journalists to seek information on various issues from the government departments. Each government department will be obliged to give information in ten days. If it does not comply, the case will be sent to the relevant Commission.
The minister said that the information regarding granting of advertisements to the newspapers will also be made public soon.
"As many as 34 initiatives have been taken by the government under six themes during its one hundred days into power," the minister said. Referring to the achievements of his ministry, Chaudhry said Right to Information Act is a significant achievement of his ministry.
He said the present government has given unprecedented freedom to media. It liberated the state run radio and TV from the censorship of last 70 years. He said a state-of-the-art university, for not only Pakistan but also for the whole South Asia, has been planned by information ministry as part of 100 days plan.
Earlier, addressing an event in Islamabad today in connection with collecting donations for two policemen who sacrificed their lives in foiling the terrorist attack on the Chinese consulate, the minister said that inimical foreign elements are behind the terrorist attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.
He said these forces cannot sabotage the Pak-China relations that are deep rooted and time tested.
Tracing the history of Pak-China relationship, the information minister said the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to China has further strengthened these relations in different spheres including economy and defense. He said this close collaboration is itching in the eyes of certain forces and that is why they are resorting to such cowardly acts.
The minister said the world fully knows as to who stands for peace and stability in the region and who is trying to sabotage it.
Fawad Chaudhary said that Pakistan has proved to be steadfast and firm in the war on terrorism. Recounting the sacrifices rendered by the security forces and its people in the war on terror, he reaffirmed the commitment to overcome the menace at all costs.
The information minister appreciated the Chinese initiative of collecting donations for the martyrs of the Chinese consulate attack. He said this gesture clearly reflects the strong bonds between the two countries despite all these odds.
Fawad Chaudhary said the government of Pakistan and China fully stand by the families of the victims of the terrorist attack.
