Flagship reference: Nawaz exempted from court appearance for one day

Nawaz has refused to present any witness in his defence.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Accountability Court on Friday granted one-day exemption from personal appearance before it to ex-prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif in Flagship Investment reference case.

On the other hand, lead defence counsel Khawaja Haris continued the cross-examination of last prosecution witness Mohammad Kamran, the investigation officer in the reference on fifth day.

In the previous hearing, Nawaz Sharif said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor has failed to provide evidence to prove his indictment in the case.

He also refused to present any witness in his defence.

It is worth mentioning here that the cases against Nawaz family stemmed from the Panama Papers leak that disclosed expensive and undeclared property allegedly owned by them in London.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Safdar were convicted and sentenced to prison for ten years, seven years and one year respectively in Avenfield verdict.

However, the convictions were suspended by Islamabad High Court and they were released from Adiala jail till final decision
