33 killed, 56 injured in Hangu blast

Security forces cordoned off the area and shifted the injured to hospital.

HANGU (Dunya News) – At least 33 people were killed and 56 sustained injuries in an explosion in Hangu’s Lower Orakzai Agency on Friday.

According to details, the incident occurred in Kalaya Bazaar where a large number of peope were present for shopping.

The blast ripped throught he market and caused destruction on a vast level. Rescue teams shifted the dead bodies and injured to Kalaya hospital.

Security forces cordoned off the area following the attack.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General directed all the Regional Police Officers (RPO) to place security on high alert. 

Initial results showed the blast was caused by "an improvised explosive device hidden in a carton of vegetables, which killed 20 people and wounded over 50 others," Khalid Iqbal, a senior administration official in Orakzai district in the semi-autonomous tribal areas, told AFP. A second official confirmed the toll.

Orakzai is one of seven restive semi-autonomous tribal regions on the Afghan border, an area that has long been a focal point in the global war on terror.
