Future of employees and their children being destroyed due to the apathy of governments

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court on Thursday summoned accounts detail of Workers Welfare Fund (WWF).

A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Azmat Saeed conducted hearing of a case pertaining to the funding of the WWF.

During the proceedings, Finance joint secretary told the court that Rs124 billion funds are with the WWF.

Giving his remarks, Justice Azmat Saeed said that the future of employees and their children was being destroyed due to the apathy of the federal and provincial governments, adding that the labourers were not even on government’s radar.

“The finance division is saying the funds are with the WWF, which is saying the money is with the finance division. This is a joke being played with the court,” Justice Azmat Saeed remarked.

“Is it written somewhere that truth will not be (uttered) before the court? Are there any instructions to prevent the court proceedings?” the judge questioned in exasperation.

The petitioner told the court that the workers were not being paid scholarships since 2016, adding that their children were being expelled from universities.

The court accepted Advocate General Punjab’s request for one week time.

The court remarked that the ministers of Interior and Oversease would be summoned if concerned secretaries didn’t show up on the next hearing.
