ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday has continued to record his statement under section 342 of the criminal procedure code in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

During the hearing headed by accountability court judge justice Muhammad Arshad Malik, Nawaz Sharif said that all his property was seized in 1999 and his business record was also illegally taken into the custody.

Previously, former PM said that he didn’t hold any public office from October 12, 1999 to May 2013 and that he submitted the wealth tax returns by himself.

Nawaz had answered 45 out of 50 queries and requested the court to allow him to record statement in remaining five questions after consultation with his lawyer Khawaja Haris. He also refused to respond to the question related to his son Hussain Nawaz’s tax returns.

It is worth mentioning here that the cases against Nawaz family stemmed from the Panama Papers leak that disclosed expensive and undeclared property allegedly owned by them in London.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Safdar were convicted and sentenced to prison for ten years, seven years and one year respectively in Avenfield verdict.

However, the convictions were suspended by Islamabad High Court and they were released from Adiala jail till final decision.
