Haroon Abdul Rashid was killed in an incident of unprovoked ceasefire violations on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to lodge a protest against the death of a civilian resulting from ceasefire violations by Indian forces.

Haroon Abdul Rashid, 18, was killed in an incident of “unprovoked ceasefire violations” by the Indian border security forces in Bijildar village of Leepa sector along the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday.

“The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office said.

“The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation,” the statement added.

According to the Foreign Office, Indian forces committed more than 2300 ceasefire violations along the LoC and Working Boundary in 2018, in which at least 34 civilians lost their lives, and 135 people were injured.
