The association said any decision to reopen schools on Friday will be taken in light of security.

LAHORE: The All Pakistan Private Schools Association has announced its decision to close schools Thursday in the wake of protests against the acquittal of Asia Bibi.

In a statement, the association said any decision to reopen schools on Friday will be taken in light of the security situation across the country.

Protests erupted soon after the Supreme Court acquitted Asia Bibi, a Christian woman on death row for alleged blasphemy, and ordered to release her on immediate basis.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the case.

"The appeal is allowed. She has been acquitted. The judgment of high court as well as trial court is reversed. Her conviction is set aside," said the top judge in the ruling.

"She is to be set free if she is not wanted in any other case."

Bibi was convicted and sentenced to death by a trial court in 2010. In, 2014, the Lahore High Court (LHC) upheld the verdict.
