ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The accountability court will dispatch a letter to the Supreme Court Tuesday seeking an extension in the time period to complete the trial pertaining to Al-Azizia and Flagship references after the fifth deadline expired Sunday.

The apex court had given a six-week deadline which commenced on August 26 and ended on October 7. Investigators have already recorded statements of witnesses while cross-examination of the investigation officer needs time to complete.

Investigators are yet to record statements of Nawaz Sharif, Wajid Zia and the investigation officer. Final arguments will take place after the conclusion of the process.

Originally, the Supreme Court had given six months to wind up the case against Nawaz Sharif and his children but the deadline was first extended for three months, then one month, and then twice for six weeks each.
