Benazir murder case: FIA submits report in Supreme Court
FIA has submitted its report in Benazir Bhutto murder case in the Supreme Court on Friday.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has submitted its report in Benazir Bhutto murder case in the Supreme Court on Friday, Dunya News reported.
The FIA has taken the stance in the report submitted in Supreme Court that the agency has filed two petitions in the Benazir Bhutto murder case which also included appeal against acquittal of accused involved in the murder of former prime minister.
The FIA report also stated that these appeals are pending in the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench. The report also said that the FIA has not filed any appeal regarding convicted police officers.
The report further said that the FIA had also filed appeals for Rafaqat Hussain and Aitzaz Shah arrest. The report said that the FIA has also written letter to Punjab Home Department and Interior Ministry for their arrest.
Earlier, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday has rejected Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) petition to suspend bails granted to two police officers accused in the Benazir murder case involving ex-President Pervaiz Musharraf as principal accused.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the case and upheld the Lahore High Court’s verdict rejecting the petition seeking suspension of the bail of former SP Khurram Shahzad and City Police Officer (CPO) Saud Aziz.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto also attended today’s proceedings, While talking to media outside the court, Bilawal said he intends to become a party in the case.
It is pertinent to mention here that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun and bomb attack during an election rally at Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007.
Earlier, an Anti Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi had announced a guilty verdict against Saud Aziz and Khurram Shehzad handing down 17- year jail imprisonment each to the convicts.
Five other accused were acquitted in the case. It is important to note that the court had declared main accused Pervaiz Musharraf proclaimed offender in the case.
