Summary Gas supply to five power plants remained suspended for a second day due to a gas pipeline explosion.

The electricity load shedding is now up to six hours in the urban areas and nine hours in the rural areas.Due to an explosion at the Sui Northern gas supply line near Guddu Barrage, gas supply was cut to Orient, Saiif, Roush, Sapphire and Fauji power plants. This increased the electricity shortfall by 1,000 megawatts, bringing the collective shortfall up to 2,500 megawatts.Pakistan Electric Power Company Director General, Muhammad Khalid, said that work to repair the pipeline is under way and once the pipeline is restored, electricity production will be at sufficient levels.
