A lawyer, Arshad Zaman Kayani, filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday, asking it to nullify the imposition of new taxes, saying that Rs 31 billion taxes had been evaded in the country.The petitioner maintained that a new mechanism was needed to collect taxes and the court to form a judicial commission to monitor the tax collection.He said that tax evasion should be brought under the jurisdiction of the National Accountability Bureau by legislation.The federal government, the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Board of Revenue and the Economic Affairs Division are made respondents in the petition.
