Summary The senators on Thursday criticised the private TV channels for airing indecent contents.

Senate Chairman Farooq H Naik presided over the session on Thursday in which the senators unleashed a severe criticism at media. Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the ministry was preparing a self-regulatory mechanism for the channels. She said that the channels working against the national interests and values could be closed in a day, if parliament approved this action. Senator Fauzia Fakhruzzaman said that between 11pm and 1am a private channel telecast a programme in which a girl keeps using “indecent language”.Zahid Khan of the Awami National Party said that if the parliamentary committee for judges appointment was powerless, it should be dissolved. The house will start a debate on the president’s address to the joint session of the parliament on Friday.
