Nawaz Sharif shifted to PIMS, cardiac ward declared 'sub-jail'

Doctors had advised his transfer to hospital after an electrocardiogram had shown "variations".

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) from Adiala Jail on the recommendation of a medical team and his personal physician after doctors expressed concern about his health.

The medical board headed by Dr Ejaz Qadeer and comprising cardiologist Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr Shaji Siddiqui, neurologist Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood carried out medical checkup of the former PM after he complained about pain in his arm and chest.

Caretaker Punjab Home Minister Shaukat Javed said on state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) that doctors had advised his transfer to hospital after an electrocardiogram had shown "variations".

The Chief Commissioner Islamabad has declared the private room of Cardiac Ward in PIMS where Nawaz Sharif was shifted as sub-jail. A notification in this regard has also been issued.

According to the notification, the private room of Cardiac Ward in PIMS will remain as sub-jail as long as Nawaz Sharif remains under treatment there. The security of the hospital has also been beefed up.
