Election 2018: Recounting of votes in several constituencies underway

The recounts were ordered on the pleas of the candidates.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The process of recounting of votes is underway in several constituencies of National and provincial assemblies today (Saturday).

The recount was ordered on the appeals of candidates who contested in their respective constituencies in recently held general elections 2018.


NA-131 Lahore


The votes in NA-131 are being recounted on the appeal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Saad Rafique who lost the election battle against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan with a difference of only 680 votes. 

Imran Khan had secured 84,313 votes while former minister for railways Saad Rafique took 83,633 votes.


 NA-108 Faisalabad


In NA-108 Faisalabad, the recounting is continued on the plea of PML-N candidate Abid Sher Ali who secured 111529 votes and stood second while PTI’s Farrukh Habib bagged 112740 votes.

It is to be mentioned here that the number of rejected votes in the NA-108 constituency is 5177.


NA-154 Multan


In NA-154 Multan, the recounting is continued on the plea of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Abdul Qadir Gilani who secured 64257 votes and stood second while PTI’s Ahmed Hussain Dehr gained 74220 votes.


NA-157 Multan-IV


The recount in NA-157 Multan-lV is also started on the request of PPP candidate Ali Musa Gilani who received 70830 votes and stood second while PTI’s Zain Qureshi grabbed top position after getting 77371 votes. 


NA-73 Sialkot


Recounting in NA-73 Sialkot has been started on the plea of PTI’s Usman Dar. In this constituency, PML-N candidate Khawaja Muhammad Asif stood first with 116957 votes while Dar took 115464 votes.

NA-90 Sargodha


The vote recount is continued in NA-90 Sargodha where PML-N candidate Chaudhary Hamid Hameed emerged victorious after getting 93948 votes while PTI’s Doctor Nadia Aziz stood second with 85220 votes.


NA-91 Sargodha 


 The votes in NA-91 Sargodha are being recounted on the appeal of PTI’s Chaudhary Amir Sultan Cheema who lost the election battle with 110246 votes against PML-N’s Doctor Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti who took 110525 votes.


NA-114 Jhang


The recount in NA-114 Jhang is also underway on the appeal of PPP candidate Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat who received 105454 votes and stood second while PTI’s Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan clinched top position with 106043 votes.


PP-115 Faisalabad


The votes in PP-115 Faisalabad are being recounted on the appeal of PTI’s Dr Asad Moazzam who lost the election battle with 53364 votes against PML-N’s Ali Abbas Khan who took 53784 votes.


PP-162 Lahore


In PP-162 Lahore, the recounting is continued on the plea of PTI candidate Aleem Khan who secured 15491 votes and stood second while PML-N’s Muhammad Yasin Sohal bagged 42012 votes.


PK-81 Kohat  


The recount in PK-81 Kohat is also started on the request of PTI candidate Imtiaz Shahid who received 16323 votes and stood second while MMA’s Shah Dad Khan grabbed top position after getting 17498 votes.


Recounting pleas rejected 


The appeal of PML-N’s Saqlain Bukhari for vote recount was rejected by returning officer in NA-188 Layyah. PTI candidate Niaz Ahmed Jakhar was declared winner with 109420 votes while Bukhari received 102943 votes.

MMA candidate Asif Iqbal’s petition of recount in PK-67 Peshawar was also dismissed. PTI candidate Arbab Muhammad Waseem Khanwas declared victorious with 16912 votes while Iqbal received 11648 votes.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Masood Nazir’s request was also disposed of to hold vote recount in NA-105 Faisalabad where PTI’s Raza Nasrullah stood on top slot with 77862 votes while Nazir received 69211 votes.

The petition of former PM and candidate of PML-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to carry out vote recounting in NA-57 Murree has been rejected. In this constituency, PTI candidate Sadaqat Ali Abbasi stood first with 136249 votes while Abbasi took 124703 votes.

In PP-106 Faisalabad, the recount appeal of PTI candidate Sardar Dilnawaz Ahmed Cheema was rejected. He took 20402 votes and stood second while independent candidate Umar Farooq won with 22563 votes.

The plea of PPP’s Hakeem Baloch, seeking recounting in NA-237 Karachi was also turned down. In this constituency, PTI candidate Jamil Ahmed Khan emerged victorious after getting 33280 votes while PPP’s Abdul Hakim Baloch stood second with 31907 votes.


Seats secured by political parties


According to the data shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan, PTI has secured 115 seats in the National Assembly while PML-N has taken 64 seats in NA, PPP 43, independents candidates 14, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal 12, MQM 6, Pakistan Muslim League-Q 4 and two each by Balochistan National Party and the Grand Democratic Alliance.

On Wednesday, millions of Pakistanis voted to elect a new government and prime minister in a peaceful elections held in free, fair and transparent manner.

Around 800,000 police and military forces were stationed at more than 85,000 polling stations across the country as the voting took place.

Wednesday’s election was only the second democratic transition of power in Pakistan’s 70-year coup-studded history.
Pakistan is a country of approximately 207 million people, out of which the number of registered voters are about 106 million.

The voting for the Pakistan election, which took place between 8:00 am local time (8:30 am IST) and 6:00 pm (6:30 pm IST), saw more than 3,000 candidates contesting for 272 general seats of the National Assembly, while some 8,000 candidates ran for 577 general seats of the four provincial assemblies - Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
