Captain (r) Safdar assured to present himself for detention.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar on Sunday has arrived at Liaquat Bagh to surrender to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In a video message to the supporters of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Safdar assured to present himself for detention after the accountability court issued his arrest warrants in Avenfield reference.

It is to be mentioned here that anti-graft watchdog team had left for Mansehra on Saturday to take Safdar into custody after accountability court verdict in Avenfield reference. The bureau had contacted caretaker government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seeking help in apprehension of Safdar.

Safdar’s name was also placed on the black list, which means he would be barred from leaving the country.

On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz had announced to return to Pakistan on July 13. Maryam warned foes of masses’ court on July 25 and instructed stalwarts to expedite election drive.

On Friday, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was convicted and sentenced to prison in absentia by the accountability court, in a verdict that is likely to further disrupt an already chaotic campaign for national elections this month.

The sentence, 10 years in prison and a fine of 8 million pounds, or $10.6 million, came almost a year after Supreme Court removed Sharif from office and less than five months after the court barred him from holding office for life.

The case stemmed from the Panama Papers leak that disclosed expensive and undeclared property owned by the Sharif family in London.
