Elections 2018: Attorney General resigns, Punjab advocate general dismissed

Ausaf took charge as AG on March-29, 2016.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In bid to ensure transparent and unbiased general elections 2018, Attorney General (AG) Ashtar Ausaf on Wednesday tendered resignation to President Mamnoon Hussain.

As per details, Ausaf stated that he was proud to serve the country in capacity of AG. He stated general elections 2018 as cause of tendering resignation.

"I believe that in the wake of imminent general elections, it would only be correct for me to tender my resignation from constitutional office, lest it be perceived by any party that my continued presence will impede the process of free and fair elections," Ausaf said in his resignation letter to President Mamnoon Hussain.

"The democratic transition, and its preservation, is a cornerstone of our Constitution and our democracy."

It is worth here to mention that Ausaf took charge as AG on March-29, 2016.  


Caretaker Punjab CM dismisses advocate General Punjab Asma Hamid


Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Hassan Askari on Wednesday has dismissed Punjab Advocate General Asma Hamid from the post she was appointed on March 29, by former CM Shahbaz Sharif.

Additional advocate general Muhammad Shan Gull has been given the additional charge of the Punjab post – advocate general as a replacement of Asma Hamid.

It is pertinent to remember that caretaker Cabinet had already expressed reservations over Asma’s appointment as advocate general Punjab.

Following the directions of caretaker CM Punjab Hassan Askari, Hamid has been removed from the post however, she will hold the responsibilities for the post of additional advocate general Punjab.
