Miani Sahib Graveyard's 60 kanal land freed after 62 years

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday has freed 60 kanal land of Miani Sahib Graveyard in Lahore after 62 years.

The court has implemented the order given by Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi over petitions submitted in 2016. The judge had ordered LESCO and others, who are illegally occupying the land, to pay Rs9 crore as a rent.



On the other hand, walls have been constructed around the graveyard for the first time whereas facility of giving bath to the dead bodies and lighting has also been arranged.



It is to be mentioned here that land mafia has illegally constructed school, petrol pump and LESCO office on the graveyard’s land.

456 places reserved for graves in Miani Sahib Graveyard were illegally allotted and have been divided among the influential people against the law. Moreover; they have also inscribed their names over the graves.



The land mafia has also fixed walls over 1248 kanal land. The relatives of the deceased are being charged higher amounts for the graveyards allotment.



The fee for raw grave is being charged Rs25000 instead of Rs100 while the amount of a refined grave is Rs40000 instead of Rs500. Besides, the fee for repairing the wall is being charged Rs10000.
