Kishanganga dam issue: World Banks says role as guarantor limited
India had started the work on the 330 MW Kishanganga Dam in 2009.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a major setback to Pakistan on Kishanganga dam issue, World Bank (WB) on Wednesday stated that its role as mediator is of technical in nature and therefore, limited.
In a statement issued after two rounds of dialogues between Pakistani delegation and WB officials, it had been stated that both parties pondered several options over conflicts arising from violations of Indus Water Treaty but no agreement had been reached.
However, WB vowed to continue work as guarantor in an unbiased and transparent manner to solve the issues between two parties.
It is worth here to mention that WB is the guarantor of the agreement. India had started the work on the 330 MW Kishanganga Dam in 2009, but Pakistan took the issue to the International Court of Justice and also raised the issue with the World Bank.
