SC suspends IHC decision, maintains ECP's ban on recruitment, development schemes

The top court has summoned ECP and other officials to Islamabad in next hearing.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday has suspended decision of Islamabad High Court (IHC) to cancel notification of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding recruitment in government offices.

During the hearing, the court has maintained ECP’s notice and banned new appointments and development schemes until general elections.

The top court has also summoned ECP and other officials to Islamabad in next hearing.

It is worth here to mention that CJP Nisar had on April 24 taken a suo motu notice on this matter and directed IHC to announce verdict in the case within a week.

IHC had annulled notification of ECP barring issuance of uplift projects, transfers and recruitment after which, the commission challegend the decision in Supreme Court.

In its notification on 11th of last month, ECP had banned new recruitment and development schemes in any federal, provincial or district department from first of last month to ensure transparency in holding of general elections 2018.
