The court seeks replies from the respondents within a month

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to former military ruler General (r) Pervez Musharraf, former president Asif Ali Zardari, former attorney general Malik Qayyum and the National Accountability Court on a petition against the National Reconciliation Order (NRO).

The court sought replies from the respondents within a month.

Petitioner Feroz Shah Gillani submitted that the NRO caused a loss of billions of rupees and that those who made the law must return the amount incurred in losses due to it.

The chief justice asked the purpose behind the petition, observing that the court had declared the NRO null and void.

Counsel for Ahmed Riaz Sheikh, who was made FIA additional DG after the NRO, told the court that his client was removed from the post after the deal was declared null and void. “He completed five-year term in prison. The president pardoned Rs 20m fine imposed on him, while confiscation of assets was set aside by the high court.

The court after hearing the arguments withdrew the suo motu notice against Ahmed Riaz Sheikh and adjourned the hearing of the case for a month.
