Senate eligibility case: SC orders Ishaq Dar to appear on May-8
Dar has fled the country in October-2017.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Tuesday directed former finance minister and Senator Ishaq Dar to appear before court on May-8 in case pertaining to approval of his nomination papers for the Senate elections.
As per details garnered, the apex court warned against issuing arrest warrants if Dar fails to register appearance.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar—during hearing—inquired whereabouts of Dar from his legal counsel Advocate Salman Butt. Responding to this, Butt apprised court that his client was sick and receiving medical treatment in London. Butt also submitted a medical certificate in this regard in the court. Butt requested court to grant additional time. CJP dismissed Butt’s request while remarking that sickness cannot last this long.
“The court has not issued order for violation”, observed CJP.
CJP told Advocate Salman Butt that SC would not prolong case till return of Ishaq Dar. “If Ishaq Dar comes to Pakistan, we can even issue protective bail for him”, remarked CJP.
CJP observed that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had met an absconder in London.
Dar has fled the country since October-2017 citing medical treatment. Since then, Dar has been decalred proclaimed offender in the corruption case filed against him National Accountability Bureau.
