IHC suspends ECP's decision to remove Farooq Sattar as MQM-P convener

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Islamabad High Court on Thursday suspended the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to remove Farooq Sattar as convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

The court has directed to restore Sattar on the post of party convenership. IHC also issued notices to ECP and convener of MQM-P Bahadurabad Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui while directing them to submit their response by April 11.

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday had sacked Farooq Sattar from the position of MQM-P convener.

A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan announced the verdict on a plea submitted by Farooq Sattar.

The ECP five-member bench had also annuled intra-party elections of PIB wing and dismissed objections of Farooq Sattar challenging the jurisdiction of ECP in the case. 

The petitions challenging his position were filed by Siddiqui and Kanwar Naveed Jameel, leaders of MQM-P Bahadur­abad.
