Twitter Wars: Hashtags trend on Twitter following SC's verdict against Nawaz Sharif

(Web Desk) – As political drama continued to unfold in Pakistan this week, its reaction was witnessed on social networking website Twitter where fiery debates, following the Supreme Court’s decision to declare former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ineligible to head the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, flooded timelines.

Various hashtags started trending on Wednesday evening with Twitteratis taking to the microblogging website to vent their political outbursts in the aftermath of the SC’s verdict regarding the Election Act of 2017.

While announcing the verdict, the apex court said that a person who doesn’t qualify on Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution is ineligible to hold any public office, including the post of president of any political party, reported Dunya News.

“Ineligible person cannot hold the office of party presidency,” the court said. SC has also annulled all decisions made by Nawaz Sharif as the party head.

Several journalists and political analysts also took to expressing their opinion on Twitter following the verdict. 








Political personalities, including Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Babar Awan, Asad Umar, also commented over the decision that has stirred the political environment in the country.

Former PM’s daughter Maryam Nawaz also used the platform to express solidarity with her father following the verdict by simply posting Sharif’s picture using with the caption ‘Main Bhee Nawaz Hoon’, using an old hashtag (#NewProfilePic) which she had previously used to express solidarity with PMLN leaders.








While #MujhayKyunNikala trended on Twitter following the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister of Pakistan last year, this recent verdict stirred Twitteratis to generate several hashtags to express their opinions over the recent political development.

Just an hour into the verdict, #AwamKiZiddNawazSharif became the top trend on Twitter with people using the hashtag to express solidarity with the former premier. Other hashtags that trended on Twitter included #SupremeCourt, #MujhayKyunNikala – the hashtag that gained popularity following Nawaz’s ouster as premier, and the latest #MujhayPhirSayKyunNikala.
