(Dunya News) – Safety of women in public spaces in Pakistan has been debated for long. But a recent incident of hidden cameras being found in a ladies fitting room in a shop in Faisalabad has sparked a heated debate on the issue once again.

In Faisalabad, a woman found hidden cameras installed inside a fitting room of a foreign brand store. The incident has raised concerns among women regarding the privacy and safety of changing rooms in stores.

Noman Zaffar registered a complaint with the People’s Colony police against the store owners, when his sister discovered the cameras secretly installed in female trial rooms.

The owners threatened to upload videos on social media if they took action against them. Zaffar stated two of the employees also tried to snatch his phone in which Zaffar took pictures of the hidden cameras installed inside the female fitting rooms.

There has been a lot of anger in public and on social media after the incident made it to the news.

Speaking to Dunya News, Sidra Chudhry, a rights activist and a psychologist said that women should carefully observe their surroundings, especially trial rooms before trying on the clothes.
“If they feel something is suspicious they should immediately inform the authorities.”

“A collective stance is needed where we should all ensure safety for women. From the FIA to mall owners, everyone must keep an eye out and ensure public spaces are secure for women,” said Chauhdry while speaking on how to tackle such a situation.

“Anyone who is found guilty must receive stricter punishments.”
