Lyari: Girls shatter stereotypes one bicycle ride at a time

(Dunya News) – Lyari, one of the notorious areas of Karachi, has seen some remarkable changes over the past few years. Young girls of Lyari are now breaking the barriers by learning how to ride a bicycle.

These girls are seen on the streets of Lyari practicing on their bicycles, falling and then standing back to take charge.

Speaking to Dunya News, these young girls said that they did not care about being catcalled while learning on the streets. "We want to practice and learn how to ride bicycles."

Some said this would help them to go to their schools and universities without any hassle.

"We have already broken the stereotype of how people think that only boys can do boxing or ride a bicycle."

"Today we are learning how to ride a bicycle. Inshallah after this, we will learn how to ride scooties or motorbikes.”

Dressed in hijab or niqab, while the girls in Lyari are learning to ride their bicycles in the presence of Rangers, but soon after they are gone, they are faced with a lot of backlash.
