ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Monday dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) petition challenging the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) jurisdiction to hear the foreign funding case.

The court stated that ECP holds the authority to conduct hearing regarding this matter. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani announced the court’s short verdict in which PTI’s request to halt proceedings by ECP was rejected.

The court had reserved its decision on Friday after listening to the arguments of both parties. Petitioner Akbar S Babar had appeared before the court with his counsel Saeed Ahmad, and Barrister Anwar Mansoor and Advocate Chaudhry Faisal had represented PTI.

Barrister Anwar Mansoor had said while arguing that bank accounts details cannot be given to everybody, and only authorised institution can inspect the details. ECP has technically become an opposition party against PTI, he maintained.

On the other hand, Saeed Ahmad had opted the stance that the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan had declared that ECP holds the power to examine the foreign funding case.
