Summary Khan termed overseas Pakistanis 'most valuable asset'.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday congratulated Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar for taking notice of disenfranchisement of overseas Pakistanis.

In his tweets, Khan termed overseas Pakistanis ‘most valuable asset’ and thanked CJP for asking Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to find ways to give them voting right.

Lauding the services of overseas Pakistanis, PTI said that they send 20billion dollars as remittances every year while they are also doing their best in abroad.

He further expressed hope over people living in foreign countries with Pakistani nationality to play key role in making ‘Naya Pakistan’.

Earlier, CJP expressed concerns on whether the parliament will give voting rights to the overseas Pakistan. Justice Nisar asked whether it is the job of the Supreme Court to give the right to vote to the Pakistanis in overseas countries.

He questioned the lack of implementation of Section 94 in the elections act that directs the ECP to conduct pilot project in the by-elections for allowing overseas Pakistanis to exercise their voting rights.

The apex court had also rejected the petition submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to become party in overseas voters case. The three-member bench including CJP gave option to PTI to file separate petition on the matter of voting rights for overseas citizens.
