NY Times names Maryam Nawaz among 11 powerful women of world

NY Times has declared Maryam Nawaz the most courageous and most powerful woman of Pakistan.

NEW YORK (Dunya News) – Daughter of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz was named in a list compiled by The New York Times (NY Times) of eleven powerful women in the world, news desk learnt on Sunday.

The NY Times named Maryam Nawaz the most powerful woman of Pakistan.

According to the NY times, Maryam is the most suitable heir to the  political empire  that her father and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has built. However, the foreign media outlet has branded corruption references and court cases hindrances in her way to further popularity.

“She had recently emerged as the right hand of her father, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” NY Times wrote.

On the other hand, Manal al-Sharif of Saudi Arabia is among the top eleven mentions of the New York Times.

1- Manal al-Sharif

Sharif is a women rights activist who is best known for her resistance campaign in 2011 against then ban on women drivers.


2- Emma Morano

The NY Times has named Morano from Verbania for her perseverance. She lived for 117 years and accredited raw eggs and lack of a husband for her longevity.

4- Henda Ayari

6- Asli Erdogan

Erdogan is a Turkish novelist who has spent months in prison and is awaiting a trial. She was held in August for being an adviser to a Kurdish newspaper. Action against her has been seen as another strike on freedom of expression by Turkish government.
