Addressing to OIC summit, he urged the US to rescind its decision, recommit to two-state solution

ISTANBUL (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday declared the United States’ move to name Jerusalem as the so-called capital of Israel as a clear violation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Addressing to the OIC summit on the status of East Jerusalem in Turkey, he urged the US to rescind its decision and comply with the UNSC resolutions, and recommit to the two-state solution.

He said it is a blatant attempt to set in motion, steps to change the historic and lawful status of the Holy City. On the behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan, PM Abbasi reiterated strong condemnation of the US decision.

Abbasi said that Pakistan has always demonstrated its solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspirations for a promised homeland, adding that the world is witness to a similar pattern of tragedy, both in scope and scale.

"For seventy years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been subjected to illegal Indian occupation and blatant violation of their fundamental rights including their right to self-determination," he mentioned

PM called on the world to unanimously reject the US decision, urging Muslims all over the world to stand together to uphold justice, liberty and freedom.

"Under the current scenario we should consider a number of options. Diplomatically, if the UN Security Council is unable to respond, we should garner support in the UN General Assembly."
