KARACHI (Dunya News) – The District Municipal Corporation in Korangi area of Karachi has sought action against seventeen illegal marriage lawns in the area.

List of marriage lawns named in the letter

The letter states that these marriage lawns persist within the jurisdiction of DMC Korangi which create problems for traffic as well as residents of nearby locality. The concerned authorities have been requested to issue necessary directives to remove these illegal encroachments.

According to sources, these marriage lawns have been built after China-cutting of amenity plots worth more than one billion rupees.

On November 29, at least seven marriage halls illegally built on land allocated for amenity purposes were demolished on Supreme Court’s orders by anti-encroachment cell of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA). The operation was conducted in Gulistan-e-Johar area where Director General KDA was also present.

A report filed in the Karachi Registry of Supreme Court has revealed that at least 35,000 Rafahi plots were illegally occupied through ‘China-cutting’ in the city.
