(Web Desk) – Following the calling off of the 22-day long sit-in by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik ya Rasool Allah at the Faizabad Interchange in Islamabad, life in the country’s capital and other cities has returned to normal.
The calling off of the sit-in and countrywide protests came in after the resignation of the Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid – one of the major demands that had been put forth by the TLYR protesters. Life in the capital and major cities across the country had been crippled over the past few days following a government crackdown on the protesters at the Faizabad Interchange on Saturday sparking violent protests across the country.
On Tuesday, major arteries of Islamabad and Rawalpindi had opened to traffic after an agreement was reached between protesters and the government.
According to Dunya News, Faizabad bus station and adjacent markets have been now been opened for public. Buses and wagons have started their operation from Faizabad to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Hazara, Galyat and Punjab.
While life is gradually returning to routine in the twin cities, businesses have also started resuming.
The release of the TLYR protesters from police custody is also underway. Striking a deal with the government, Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi has said that he and his followers still have 12 hours and will leave Faizabad and abandon the sit-in completely once the remaining protesters are also freed.
Speaking to the media, he said that his party and government had reached a peaceful agreement and while calling off the strike announced to his followers that they were free to go back.
