Punjab: Funds allocated for laptop, clean water schemes issued to PMLN's lawmakers

Summary Official documents state that Rs10.27 million will be spent on uplift projects in Lahore.

LAHORE (Dunya News)- Punjab government has issued mammoth Rs890.31 million to the lawmakers of ruling party to complete various uplift projects in the constituencies of as many as 20 districts.

The amount has been transferred from funds allocated for education and clean water schemes.

As per documents acquired by Investigation Wing of Roznama Dunya, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a session to contemplate on transfer of funds. Sources present in the session told our correspondent that CM Shehbaz had directed authorities to allocate funds for the completion of uplift schemes in constituencies of ruling party’s lawmakers. Following CM’s instructions, Punjab Finance Department and Planning & Development Department cut funds worth Rs440.31 million from clean water scheme and Rs450 million from laptop scheme and issued it to the lawmakers of the ruling party.

The official documents state that Rs10.27 million will be spent on uplift projects in Lahore, Rs60.32 million in Faisalabad, Rs10.06 mln in Nankana Sahib, Rs20.66 mln in Toba Tek Singh, Rs20.46 mln in Khanewal, Rs60.69 mln in Bahawalpur, Rs60 mln in Jhelum, Rs40.29 mln in Vehari, Rs60.06 mln in Okara and Rs160 mln in Lodhran.

Against backdrop of transfers of fund, at least 16071 students would not get laptop this year whereas several ongoing projects of clean water in Southern Punjab will remain unfinished for an indefinite period.
