(Dunya News) – The greenbelt along the G.T. Road from Chamkani in Peshawar to Khyber Agency’s Border of Karkhano Market, has once again been axed.

The 28 km long greenbelt was a part of the beautification project that was completed in Peshawar last year. But owing to the poor planning of the authorities, the greenbelt grown at an expense of millions of rupees is being removed after just one year.

Some of the trees being cut down by Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) for a rapid bus transit project are decades old and also include date palms.

While officials claim that the date palms of the greenbelt will be removed with their roots intact and planted elsewhere, the consultant company hired by the provincial government refused to comment when questioned about the cost incurred on the greenbelt.
