(Dunya News) – Rawalpindi’s Fatima Jinnah University has always been popular for being one of the leading women universities of the country that offers quality education. But lesser known is the rich history associated with its ages old building constructed in the Victorian era.
Bursting with the beauty of Victorian architecture, the white-coloured structure with marble floors, glass-engraved walls and ceilings, wide balconies and passages was originally built a haveli, hundred and seventeen years ago by two Sikh brothers, Mohan Singh and Sohan Singh.
Abandoned by its owners during the mass migration of 1947, the mansion was first transformed into a state guest house. This was followed by its conversion into the presidency and finally the country’s first women university in 1972 and 1998, respectively.
The mansion, even after facing toughest of times, still maintains its beauty and stands erect with its history stretching for longer than a century now.
