Sharmeen Chinoy bags another award: 'A Girl In The River' wins Emmy for Best Documentary

(Web Desk) – Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s documentary has won the Best Documentary award at the 38th annual news and documentary Emmy Awards.
Obaid-Chinoy shared the good news from New York right after winning the award for ‘A Girl In The River’.

A Girl In The River: The Price of Forgiveness was nominated for three categories including Best Documentary, Outstanding Short Documentary and Outstanding Music and Sound.
Obaid-Chinoy has already won six Emmy awards in the past for her documentaries; one for Pakistan’s Taliban Generation and five for her documentary ‘Saving Face’.
The documentary was based on the story of a young woman who survived honour killing by her father and uncle.
‘A Girl In The River’ succeeded over four documentaries including Children of Syria, Welcome to Leith, Thank You For Playing and The Look of Silence.
In her acceptance speech Obaid-Chinoy spoke of courage of the subject of her documentary. "A 17-year-old girl had the bravery to stand up and the commitment to fight a system and because of that, a law was changed in Pakistan. And you had newspapers and television channels reporting honour killings in a different way. So it only took the commitment of one single person to do that."
