Review a la Dunya: Home Grown

Wishal continues her search for the best burger in town.

By Wishal Raheel

In my quest to find the best burger in town I was led to a small, initially home-based, venture called Home Grown. After hearing tons of excellent reviews and seeing many mouth-watering pictures of what looked like divine burgers, one fine day, I decided to try them out.

Here’s how the experience went.

The patty

Being a firm believer of the fact that burgers ought to be beef, I decided my burger was to have a single beef patty. This was perhaps the best beef patty I have ever had, and that too, priced at Rs. 320. On special request, they kept the patty medium rare and I must say I haven’t had medium-rare so perfectly done before. The patty wasn’t chewy neither was it burnt - something that is seldom the case when it comes to burgers in this city.

The toppings

The burger comes with a complimentary topping followed by as many toppings as you like for a mere Rs. 25 per topping. You can choose from a total of 12 toppings. I went with my usual favourites - caramelised onions and honey mustard. Boy! The combo was truly divine. The patty was smothered in honey mustard which complimented the flavour of the beef patty just perfectly. You can also opt to add cheese for an additional Rs. 30, but I chose not to.

The buns

Home grown is known for baking its own buns. The buns are just perfectly soft but surprisingly don’t get soggy over time. I’d eat these buns on their own if I had to - they’re that soft.

Overall experience

A friend tried the chicken burger too, and honestly, that wasn’t bad either. I would still recommend their beef burgers if you truly want to experience the amazing taste that they have to offer. The entire meal won’t cost you over Rs. 500 provided you only get two extra toppings and choose not to get a double patty burger. A single patty burger, however, is big enough for anyone with a normal appetite.

The negatives

The quality of their fries can fluctuate. One day you’ll be getting the best, most amazing fries ever and another day you’ll get fries that have the potential to ruin your meal. A little more consistency in the quality of the fries would therefore be great.
