Imran Khan will attend NA session, confirms Shafqat Mahmood

Dunya News

Imran Khan will participate in voting process for the election of new PM.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has decided to attend National Assembly (NA) meeting today (Tuesday) for the election of new prime minister.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shafqat Mehmood has confirmed the news.

Imran Khan had earlier decided to skip the election process after consultation with party leaders and tasked Shah Mahmood Qureshi to lead his side in the session.

On the other, NA is all set to elect interim PM after Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz Sharif over a corruption scandal.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated former state minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as interim prime minister for 45 days while PTI backed Sheikh Rashid’s name, but could not gain the support of any other party apart from PML-Q.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also nominated its leader Naveed Qamar for the elections whereas Khursheed Shah withdrew his nomination papers.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan’s (MQM) Kishwar Zehra has also taken back her papers as the party pledged conditional support to PML-N.

JI’s Sahibzada Tariqullah too has submitted the nomination papers.
